Letter from the Principal (January, 2026)

Dear Parents, Guardians and Learners,

By the end of the first week, the campus already feels like itself again – a little louder, a little busier, and full of the familiar rhythm of a school year finding its feet. The first week is always a sprint. New routines, new timetables, new friendships and a great many “Which way is this classroom?” moments – especially for our Grade 8s, who have navigated their first few days with courage and good humour and are already finding their way with growing confidence.

It has been a pleasure to see old friendships rekindled, new ones forming, and the energy that only a full school can bring returning to our corridors and classrooms.

We are also delighted to welcome some new faces to the Camps Bay High School team in 2026 – and a familiar one making a return:
From left to right:
Ms Abigail Brenner – Social Sciences, who impressed us during her teaching practical.
Ms Mingah Anthony – Maths & Maths Literacy, with strong experience in youth development and learner support.
Mr Stephen Cupido – Afrikaans FAL, joining us from Bergvliet High with NSC marking experience.
Ms Tamara Myburgh – English HL, now joining us permanently after stepping in last year.
Mr Kundi Mukombwe – Business Studies, back at CBHS with a decade of teaching behind him.

We are so glad to have you on the team – welcome to Camps Bay High School.

Phone-Free Campus – Effective Monday
From Monday, our phone-free school day comes fully into effect, from the first bell to the last bell.

  • All Grade 8–10 learners have been issued with phone lockers.
  • Phones must be locked away before the first bell and may only be taken out after the last bell.
  • Please remember to pay the phone locker rental via Karri.
  • Grade 11 & 12 learners may temporarily keep phones on them as lockers are not yet available, but phones may not be seen or used inside the building. This is a temporary arrangement.

Key points from the Phone-Free Policy:

  • The school day is phone-free – devices may not be seen, used or heard.
  • Personal electronic devices include cellphones, tablets, earbuds, AirPods and any internet-enabled device.
  • Devices must be stored in the phone locker, not book lockers.
  • Bringing a device to school is the learner’s choice and responsibility.
  • There are no warnings:
    • First offence: device confiscated; parent collects it or it is released after 3 school days, plus DT.
    • Second offence: disciplinary meeting; the learner may be required to leave the device at home permanently.
  • Exceptions apply only for medical needs with a doctor’s letter.

Learners will be bringing home Policy Acceptance Forms. Please ensure these are signed and returned promptly.

Sport & Activities
Earlier this week we sent out the Sports Programme. Due to circumstances beyond our control, there has been a small change affecting Water Polo only (see attached).

The Term 1 fixture schedule will be finalised early next week and we’ll share this with you as soon as possible.

We love seeing parents on the sidelines. Your presence and encouragement make a real difference, and you are always welcome at our matches.

A reminder that:

  • Every learner must participate in at least one summer sport.
  • All sports begin next week.

Communication
Attached you will find our Staff Contact Lists. Our preferred method of communication is email.

Please remember:

  • Your first point of contact is always your child’s Tutor Teacher.
  • Kindly contact staff during normal working hours, unless it is an emergency.

Textbooks & Responsibility
Textbooks are issued to learners on loan for the year and remain the responsibility of parents while in their child’s care. It is the parent’s duty to ensure that all textbooks are covered in plastic and kept in good condition throughout the year.

Payments for lost or damaged textbooks will be loaded to Karri:

  • Grade 8 & 9: R150 per book
  • Grade 10–12: R200 per book

Despite numerous reminders last year, some lockers were not cleared. Any books found in uncleared lockers had to be marked as lost, and parents are therefore liable for these. We ask for your support in reinforcing the importance of caring for these resources.

Drop-off & Collection
Learners must be dropped off and collected at the Stop ’n Drop areas on Kloof Road, above and below the school.

You will also find the latest Term Planner attached for your reference.

The first week always feels a little breathless. As routines settle and extramurals get underway, the pace will ease and the year will find its natural rhythm. Thank you for your patience, your support, and the trust you place in us as we walk this year with your children.

Kind regards,

Mr Louis Mostert
Principal
